Using the Assistant

Ask questions, take actions, and manage your business from a single conversation.

The Midday assistant lets you ask questions, take actions, and manage your business in plain language — directly from the dashboard.

#Access the assistant

  1. Open Midday
  2. The assistant is available from the home screen
  3. Type your question or request
  4. Get an instant response — or watch the assistant take action for you

#Chat modes

The assistant supports three modes you can switch between:

  • Auto — The default. Automatically picks the best approach for your question — fast for simple lookups, more thorough for complex analysis.
  • Instant — Optimized for speed. Best for quick lookups like "show my balance" or "list overdue invoices".
  • Thinking — Deep reasoning mode for complex questions like financial comparisons, forecasts, or multi-step analysis. Available on Pro plans.

#What you can do

The assistant can both answer questions and take real actions on your behalf.

#Ask about your finances

  • "What was my revenue last month?"
  • "Show me revenue by customer this quarter"
  • "How does this month compare to last month?"
  • "What did I spend on software last quarter?"
  • "What's my current balance?"
  • "How long will my cash last?"

#Create and manage invoices

  • "Create an invoice for Acme Corp for 10 hours of consulting at $150/hr"
  • "Send the draft invoice to Acme Corp"
  • "Remind Beta Inc about their overdue invoice"
  • "Mark invoice INV-0042 as paid"
  • "What invoices are overdue?"

#Manage transactions

  • "Categorize all my Stripe transactions as income"
  • "Tag these transactions as tax-deductible"
  • "Delete the manual transaction from yesterday"
  • "Show transactions from last month"

#Track time

  • "Start a timer on Project X"
  • "Log 2 hours for the client meeting yesterday"
  • "How many hours did I track this week?"
  • "What's unbilled for Project X?"

#Export and report

  • "Export my January transactions to my accountant at [email protected]"
  • "What's my growth rate compared to last quarter?"
  • "Give me a balance sheet as of today"
  • "Show spending by category for last month"

The assistant can search the web for real-time information and combine it with your business data:

  • "Can I afford a Tesla Model 3?" — looks up the current price and checks your balance or runway.
  • "What's the VAT rate in Germany?" — finds the rate and checks your relevant transactions.
  • "How does my revenue compare to industry average?" — searches for benchmarks and pulls your actual numbers.

This is useful for questions involving prices, exchange rates, tax rules, or industry benchmarks.

#Connected apps

The assistant can interact with external tools you've connected — Gmail, Slack, Google Calendar, Notion, GitHub, Linear, and more.

  • "Check my calendar for tomorrow"
  • "Send a Slack message to the team channel"
  • "Look up the latest GitHub issue on our repo"
  • "Create a Notion page with this month's revenue summary"

Connect apps from the Connectors settings in your dashboard. See Connected Apps for the full list and setup instructions.

#Tips

  • Be specific: "Revenue last month" works better than "How am I doing?"
  • Include time periods: "this month," "last quarter," "in 2025"
  • Ask follow-ups: The assistant remembers context within a conversation
  • Combine actions: "Create an invoice for Acme Corp and send it" works in one go
  • Use natural language: You don't need special syntax — just describe what you want

#Limitations

The assistant cannot:

  • Send emails (other than invoice send/remind)
  • Connect bank accounts or modify account settings
  • Manage billing or subscriptions
  • Upload files

For these, use the corresponding pages in the Midday dashboard.
